Stand Your Ground Should Be Amended, Not Repealed

July 25, 2013 by Eric L Guster

The attempts to repeal most Stand Your Ground laws are huge mistakes. Instead of asking for a repeal, which is an annulment or deletion of the law, the Stand Your Ground Laws should be AMENDED. An amendment would allow the laws to be changed by adding language which would protect shooting victims from situations such as the Trayvon Martin case as well as others in situations similar to his. The amended laws should quash the Stand Your Ground defense if a person pursues the other. Therefore, cases like the Zimmerman/Martin case would likely end up differently.

“These A**Holes, They Always Get Away” Should Be The Cornerstone Of The Prosecutor’s Case

July 2, 2013 by Eric L Guster

The first week of testimony was tough on the prosecution. Proving the murder charge will be a task for them, as with any case similar to this since the eyewitnesses are limited and the case is somewhat circumstantial as to the intent. There were several witnesses to testify last week whose testimony will be crucial to the case in upcoming weeks.

Zimmerman Trial Update and Rachel Jeantel’s Important Testimony

June 29, 2013 by Eric L Guster

I was totally disgusted with the treatment of Rachel Jeantel by those outside of the courtroom. Social media, news commentators and pundits had a field day with her. Not only was it disgusting, but for noted celebrities to tweet horrible things about her, such as Olympian Lolo Jones, made it even worse. To think that a few days earlier there was a television special called Dark Girls, which discussed how our own race discriminates against itself made it even more disturbing.

Week 2 Zimmerman Trial Update

June 20, 2013 by Eric L Guster

This is the second week of the trial of George Zimmerman for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. The lawyers will continue jury selection through this week and will begin with opening statements once the jury is selected. . A key difference in this trial compared to others across the country is that Florida, unlike most states, requires only 6 jurors for criminal trials except in capital murder cases, which require 12 jurors. Most jurisdictions and states require 12 jurors for all felony criminal trials, which is a far cry from the 6 in Florida. In addition to the 6 jurors, there will be 4 alternates chosen to hear the trial of Zimmerman.

Statutory Rape – If You Have a High Schooler, You Need To See This!

October 5, 2012 by Eric L Guster

In most states, statutory rape only requires an age difference. It does not involve force of a victim. In Alabama, if one participant is two years older than the other, a statutory rape case can be filed. If convicted, that person has a lifetime of sex offender notifications, registration as a sex offender and a lifetime of humiliation. Please watch this video and share it with your children. This can impact their life forever.
